ON MAHOGANY

“Money may not grow on trees, but some trees are worth a lot of money — too much for their own good. Such is the case with mahogany, the

"green gold" of the Amazon, so prized for its beautiful wood that one tree alone can produce more than $100,000 worth of high quality furniture.”

Endangered Trees

Mahogany

In Peru, as of 2004, mahogany's range has shrunk by 50%, and it is estimated that within a decade, a further 28% will be extinguished. As of 2010 Brazil’s mahogany was reduced by 65%

Teak

Widely used for its lumber, teak has proven to be a source of wealth due to its properties and monetary profits and a source of ecological destruction when grown on foreign soil.

Rosewood

With a growing demand for luxury furniture in China, the consumption of Rosewood has led to a demolition of entire forests in Africa after trees in other regions of the world have already been extracted.
